Four Hundred Years "Transmit Failure"

Format

Originally released in 1998, Transmit Failure is the defining second full-length from Four Hundred Years, capturing the band at the point where hardcore, dissonance, melody, and political urgency fully converged.

Formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1996 before relocating to Richmond, Virginia, Four Hundred Years emerged from the fiercely creative DIY hardcore scene of the late ’90s. On Transmit Failure, the lineup of Daron Hollowell, Dave Jackson, Erin Housholder, and Ash Bruce pushed beyond the boundaries of traditional hardcore with tightly wound guitars, a taut rhythm section, raw dual vocals, and an increasingly dynamic approach to songwriting.

The album was originally recorded with J. Robbins at Inner Ear Studios in April 1998 and released by Lovitt Records. Nearly three decades later, Robbins returned to the material, creating a new mix at The Magpie Cage Recording Studio, with Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio handling the new remaster. Rather than reinventing the record, the new version brings its tension, detail, and urgency into sharper focus.

Songs like “Power of Speech,” “Penny for Your Thoughts,” “Radio Silence,” “Transmit Failure,” “Throw Spark,” and “Sequence” remain a powerful document of an era when hardcore was rapidly expanding its musical and political vocabulary.

For this edition, Iodine Recordings has partnered with Lovitt Records and Thirty Something Records for an exclusive Sequence Splatter variant, limited to just 100 copies.
