"Gared was like a brother to me - a pillar of support. Even for people who didn't know him personally, I think this feeling was universal. I wanted to do something special when asked to make a design for the new Planes Mistaken For Stars (PMFS) album, so I made a design using Gared's eye to recreate the "Eye of Providence," also sometimes called the "Eye of Horus." This ancient symbol represents healing, protection, and well-being. The symbols below the eye all represent fragmentation and repair - a common theme found throughout the history of PMFS. Laurel leaves - a sign of victory. A broken chain represents the discontinuity of the band's lineup over the years. A bent nail because repair is rarely straightforward or easy. A burnt match but with the flame still strong in the eye's pupil directly above it. A knotted rope that is the strength of bonds and friendship. A needle and thread to sew together the holes of grief and repair the fabric of memory. And two teardrops, one for Gared and one for Matt, and for all of us left in their wake - not gone and never to be forgotten."
