Cold World "Dedicated..." CD in stores now (LP soon), on tour now!!!
Cold World's "Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First" CD is in stores everywhere now!!! The vinyl will follow in the coming weeks...

"Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First" is the highly anticipated album from Cold World. Over a year in the making, the album was produced and engineered by Biohazard guitarist Billy Graziadei at his Underground Sound Studios. The 15 songs that make up "Dedicated..." tell a chilling real life tale of struggle in the world as we know it today. From the opening bounce of "Boom Bye Bye" it's apparent that Cold World's musical grit and power have risen to new levels to tell that story. This artistic progression is reinforced as the album unfolds. When the title track "Dedicated..." explodes forth (featuring guest vocals by George of Blacklisted), it's clear that the band have crafted an unforgettable hardcore anthem. While standouts "Roaches And Rats" and "Whagwan (Featuring Warrior Queen)" combine a bleak lyrical commentary, hip-hop character, and hardcore intensity as only Cold World can. And with "Do The Knowledge" and "Time To Break Down" Cold World pay homage to longtime influences Life Of Agony and Biohazard, weaving together polished melodic vocal hooks and metal/crossover heaviness. Altogether these twists and turns create an album as sonically diverse as it is infectious. Ultimately propelling Cold World into their own untouchable class; surely to be imitated, but never to be duplicated.

Killing The Dream "Fractures" CD/LP out now, on tour soon!!!
"Fractures" is Killing The Dream's latest full length effort. Over a year in the making, "Fractures" was engineered by J. Robbins at Magpie Studios (Jawbox, Burning Airlines). When vocalist Eli Horner erupts with "...This isn't what I hoped I'd have to say..." in "Part II", listeners hair stands on end. The electrically charged atmosphere he creates with his emotion induces awe. From that point on "Fractures" explodes as a shrapnel filled musical force. Unorthodox heaviness and raw melodies cut and crack the abrasive surface in songs like "Consequence" and "Resolution". While songs like "Holding The Claws" and "Fractures" showcase the band's ongoing creative evolution. Proving that you can progress and mature within the hardcore world, without ever having to leave it behind.

Killing The Dream just returned from their second trip over to Japan, this time with their pals Ruiner. They had a great time, and their friend and roadie Zach documented the whole trip in his blog.

Carpathian joins the Deathwish/Malfunction family, "Isolation" coming soon
Since forming on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula five years ago, Carpathian have been an indestructible force on unstable ground. Hampered by incessant line-up changes, they've nonetheless managed to assert their dominance at the forefront of the Australian hardcore pack.

Releasing their self-titled debut EP through Washed Up Records in 2005, they were promptly signed to Australian hardcore label Resist, who issued the acclaimed full-length album "Nothing to Lose" the following year. Further forging their reputation on the live front, Carpathian played second-fiddle to no one, whether mixing it with the cream of the local scene or stepping up onto bigger stages for tours with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Bleeding Through, etc.

There is simply no doubting Carpathian's indestructibility. But if there was a price to pay for all the chronic upheaval, it's that establishing a cohesive musical vision was often forced to take a backseat to survival. For all the success they enjoyed early in their career, it wasn't really until 2007, four years after the band originally formed, that all the pieces finally began to lock into place.

In March, a freshly unified Carpathian line-up toured through the UK and Europe alongside Parkway Drive and On Broken Wings. In October they became the only local band to play every date on the Australian legs of the 2007 Taste of Chaos Tour. Then, in December, came the first recording by the rejuvenated line-up, a limited two-song 7-inch EP via Resist entitled "Wrecked", unveiling a frightfully intense new Carpathian sound.

Spending the first half of 2008 intensely writing songs, the band took time out briefly in February to once again be the only Australian band to perform on the national Soundwave '08 tour. In May, armed with a killer batch of songs, they converged upon the Getaway Group, a studio situated in the basement of Jay Maas' suburban home in Wakefield, Massachusetts, just north of Boston. A respected hardcore producer who has pulled huge sounds for the likes of Shipwreck A.D. and Verse, Maas proved the perfect choice to help Carpathian realize their vision for "Isolation".

"Isolation", the new full length from Carpathian, will be released by Deathwish/Malfunction later in 2008 (under exclusive license from Resist). More News on this release will be posted soon.

Converge on the cover of the new Kerrang! Magazine
In a rare series of events, Metal publication Kerrang! have put together a cover story on Converge. It's quite a rarity that a publication like Kerrang! gives hardcore/punk bands like Converge substantial coverage in their pages. Hats off to them for breaking from their norm and doing so. Hopefully they continue shaking things up like this in the future.

Converge are currently on the road w/ Integrity and Coliseum in Europe.

Killing The Dream "Fractures" gets 9.5 of 10 from Scenepointblank.com
"...I'm going to be straight up; Fractures is the most anticipated album of 2008 for me...

...Killing the Dream continue to thrust through Fractures with a hardcore assault that draws from the likes of Unbroken, Turning Point, and other 90's greats. The band balances the more chaotic influences with their more ambitious and experimental sounds perfectly, never coming across as forced. The album does feature some pretty intense moments. "Everything but Everything" concludes with a devastating breakdown that really redefines the heaviness of the band. It is followed by four sub-two-minute blasts of sonically charged hardcore. On the flipside is "Holding the Claws" with its interweaving guitar melodies. Closer "Resolution" clocks in at over four minutes; it comprises nearly a fifth of the total recording time of the album. While the team of Rogers and Guild lay down dramatic guitarlines, Frantini supplies marching drums. Chase plucks the bass with spontaneity, adding to the fullness of the song. Horner completes the operatic closing with his emotional delivery. The second half comes together as a paring of angst-driven hardcore and meandering post-rock and its pure bliss to listen to...

...Killing the Dream never seems to disappoint me. From the get-go with their demo up until now with their latest offering I have loved everything they've put to plastic/wax. Fractures is my mid-season contender for album of the year, it's going to take something pretty amazing to knock it off..."

Killing The Dream "Fractures" CD/LP getting great reviews!!!
Killing The Dream "Fractures" CD/LP reviews have been rolling in over the last few weeks. A variety of great blogs/publications have had some kind words including Unbound, Ultimate Guitar,Pastepunk, and more.

Here's a solid quote from Unbound zine:

"...If someone said that Killing the Dream was the future of hardcore I would say that the genre has a pretty bright future to look forward to. If there is one thing we need it is more forward thinking bands that can take the original sounds of the genre and twist it into something unique. It's time for the death of metalcore and metal bands that call themselves hardcore. Fractures might serve as the final nail in the coffin and Im am relived that hardcore still has a band this dangerous as Killing the Dream is definitely a wolf amongst a tremendously large flock of sheep..."

Jay from Reign Supreme interviewed by Stuck In The City Blog
Stuck In The City Blog conducted a great interview w/ Jay from Reign Supreme at their recent show in Toronto. Here's an excerpt:

SITC: Who are you? What do you do? Why do you do it?

Jay: My name's Jay Pepito. I sing for the hardcore band Reign Supreme based out of the Philadelphia metro region and I do it because it's the only thing that's every made me really happy in life and I guess that's as good a reason as any.

SITC: So how did Reign Supreme start up and what were you doing musically between Blacklisted and Reign Supreme?

Jay: Reign Supreme started off basically I guess I had a really good job, I was going to school full time and I was making a lot of money, I had an awesome apartment and a girlfriend I lived with and all this stuff and I just wasn't that happy with it. I don't know what is wrong with me to the point where only doing shit like this makes me happy, but for some reason I just felt empty. So I ended meeting up with a couple friends. We started jamming out on these songs I had and had originally intend for them to be Blacklisted songs but obviously I wasn't in the band anymore so they didn't get used for that. We ended up jamming, recorded a demo and the response was overwhelming. We decided shortly thereafter that we were just gonna start touring and try to make as hard a go at it as we can. At that point a couple members decided they didn't want to tour so we filled in the spots. Lo and behold, about a year and a half later, you have Reign Supreme now...

Life Long Tragedy call it a day, official word from the band
Life Long Tragedy recently played their last show on June 27th, with friends Ceremony and Sabertooth Zombie. The decision to end the band came fast, giving only a couple days notice before their final performance.

Scott emailed us the following after their last show. Life Long Tragedy will really be missed around here, and from all of us, we wish them the best of luck in all they do in the future.

"The decision to end our band was pretty abrupt. We didn't really start talking about it until near the end of our recent tour. Although painful on many different levels, we all mutually agreed that it was time. Like that sick, old dog --- you know one day you're going to have to put it to sleep. The truth is that there wasn't a whole lot of wind left in our sails or air in our tires or whatever analogy you'd prefer to use. We do apologize to those who wanted to see us one more time. We were never the sort of band to make a big stink about breaking up and do some extravagant last show with limited shirts and shit. My memory isn't good enough to make a huge list of people to thank but there is a remarkable amount of you who made this fun for us. Dear memories and friendships were born from this band that will press forward like space and time. And to me, that is what is important, more so than some songs or records or shows. None of us are done with music. Cody and Jason are still blowing minds with Sabertooth Zombie. RJ surely has some tricks up his sleeves. Jery and I have had our Purple Mercy project going for quite some time now and will hopefully record something by year's end. So there you have it. Thanks everyone. -Scott Phillips / LLT"

End of a Year join the Deathwish affiliated family!!!
End of a Year started as a way to kill time for Albany musicians already involved in full-time bands. Having spent time in heavier bands, the initial End of a Year line-up was interested in trying something more overtly melodic. Taking their name from an Embrace song, the band's original sound was highly influenced by the Revolution Summer-era DC bands.

The band recorded a boombox demo to give out at their first show, which took place at SUNY Albany. Shortly thereafter, a more formal demo entitled "Warm" was recorded. A full-length, Disappear Here, appeared on local labels Oneohfive and Losingface Records. The band later released a split 7" with western Massachusetts band Three Fifteen on another local label, Slave Union. It was this record that caught the attention of Revelation Records, and the band made the jump in 2006, recording their first full-length for the California label in the spring of that year. That album, "Sincerely", was recorded with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio, adding to the perception that the band was striving for a DC-centered sound; the actual music, however, strayed further from that model than on previous releases. Since the release of "Sincerely", End of a Year has released a 7"EP and two splits on various labels worldwide.

2008 brings End of a Year and Deathwish together. The band is currently working on their first release for Deathwish. Be sure to check them out at this year's Sound & Fury Festival.

Trap Them & Extreme Noise Terror Split 7"EP out now!!!
Trap Them are the brutal metal/hardcore machine formed by Ryan McKenney (ex-Backstabbers Inc.) and Brian Izzi (ex-December Wolves). In 2006, they released three stunning records including the heralded "Seance Prime" CDEP/7"EP on Deathwish. England's Extreme Noise Terror (ENT) are one of the most important and influential bands in the extreme music community. Formed in 1985, ENT along with bands Napalm Death, Siege and others, pioneered the blast/grind approach and laid the foundation for contemporary metal/punk/hardcore as we know it. Through the years, ENT have gone through a multitude of lineup changes as they have evolved (including Doom, Napalm Death and Cradle Of Filth members), releasing killer albums on Earache, Candlelight, and Osmose Productions.

To celebrate their recent West Coast tour, ENT and Trap Them released a split 7"EP on Deathwish. The release features one new song from each band is limited to 1000 copies only. This release only be available in the DW Estore, pick up your copy before they are all gone.

"The Blood..." by J. Bannon 7"EP out now, website launched!!!
"The Blood Of Thine Enemies" is the long awaited debut solo recording from J. Bannon (Converge, Supermachiner, etc). "The Blood..." is a minimalist six minute emotional dirge unlike any of his previous musical/artistic efforts. Haunting in it's simplicity, this release foreshadows his anticipated "Wear Your Wounds" album, due out on Deathwish later in 2008.

Meant to be a stand alone piece, "The Blood..." is exclusively available as a one sided 7"EP (w/ a beautifully etched B-side) and will not be included on any other J. Bannon release. Please note that there is no retail release for this 7"EP, the only place you can purchase it is in the DW Estore.

Lastly, a comprehensive J. Bannon site has been launched @ jacobbannon.com. The site is still under construction, but it's alive. Check it out.

Great Blacklisted review @ bangbangblog.com!!!
"...First of all, let me start with the thing that intrigues me the most about the new record. Explain me the signification behind a title like Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God. Why such a title?
Well "Heavier Than Heaven" was the name of Nirvanas first European tour with the band Tad. "Lonelier Than God" is a lyrics from the Hum song "Suicide Machine". I put them together because for personal reasons they make a lot of sense to me. I've stated why in many interviews, I was thinking about all the books I read that Henry Rollins wrote and thinking how he tends to use the word "Heavy" while describing things, emotional things. I feel like the word "Heavy" is a powerful word. Blacklisted gets lumped into the category of "heavy" bands, but only in sound. I wanted to transcend that into a state of emotional "Heaviness" and feeling. I wanted to be seen as more then just some "hard band". I am far from a hard person so why portray my music as that. At the time the record was being written I was working in a thrift store dedicated to aids research. Mostly I would sit upstairs and read old back issues of Spin and Rolling Stone and random books I found. One day I came across an old back issue of Spin with Noel Gallagher of Oasis on the cover. Underneath his photo it said "Louder Than Bombs, Bigger Than God, Mad As Hatters". That right there inspired me for an album title. Almost immediately "Heavier Than Heaven" came into mind. It wasn't until much later I was listening to Hum and put it together with that line "Lonelier Than God..."

George from Blacklisted interviewed by "All Philly All Day"
"All Philly All Day" conducted a great interview w/ George from Blacklisted about music, life, and all things inbetween. Here's an excerpt:

"...SG: Reading different message boards and webssites people seem to be really anticipating "Heavier than Heaven, Lonelier than God". How does that feel? It has to be an awesome feeling for people to want something you hold so dear and are such a big part of.

George: I thought it was awesome when I first started this band, But I quickly learned it is what it is. I kind of hate releasing albums because Im not the type of person that will be a martyr for the music I write, I dont feel the need to defend it, or explain it and it seems like that is what you have to do nowadays. To be honest Im not prepared or qualified to do that. Blacklisted isnt a sound, for me it is a feeling, It is a natural feeling. I dont know why I sing the way I do, thats just how I sound. My voice depends on the way my mind and body feel that day, I dont have any skill, I dont have a "voice" Im not a good or talented writer by any means. Im not prepared to explain what the lyrics mean because they arent written for anyone but me, They are like little notes to myself, Its like walking into a house with yellow post it notes all over for reminder purposes, thats what my lyrics are but put to music. Its like saying "Hey George, you dont have to carry any of the worlds weight, you can drop it and go home anytime you like". Basically blacklisted songs are written just to let me know that im not crazy and its ok that im pretty much afraid of everything on the planet. Its crazy when people judge it and are like "its not hard enough" "he sounds like axle rose or kurt cobain", because a) youre looking for hardness in me, one of the weakest people ever and b)if i sounded like either of them people I wouldnt be making this music I would make one album then just have so much money I could pay people to tell me im not crazy, and if I was ever feeling frisky and wanted to feel like I was playing in a hardcore band, I could just pay people to belittle me and pick at every little detail they can find. So that is pretty much what it feels like to write, record and release a new record..."

Reign Supreme "American Violence" gets 4 out of 5 review @ Punkbands.com
"...This is one of those bands that comes along and after you hear them you just can't stop wanting to put their CD back in the player. Jay Pepito has brought together a great hardcore band after leaving Blacklisted. This marks the band's second release, their original demo is now a 7" EP. The first song, "I Stand Defiant," hits you in the face and gives you a good idea of what is to come. By the time you've regained consciousness, "Iscariot" slows down the tempo for a great sludge two-step riff, the best on the record. "To A Dead God" just continues where the last two tracks left off, pummeling you in the face. Hands down my favorite song on this EP is "Still Unbroken". The lyrics are truthful and the song just rips; a hardcore anthem, without a doubt. The last song, "Faithless," is probably the most powerful lyrically on the album; it covers greed, humanity, faith and politics, all in less than 3 minutes.

The album design was done by the head of Deathwish, Jacob Bannon, who has one of the best reputations in the genre. The only thing keeping me from giving this release 5 stars is the fact that it's an EP and it's only about twelve minutes, so you don't really feel like you get your fix until you've listened to the thing 3 times. Look for a full-length release to blow the doors off of everything; this band is going to take over the hearts of every hardcore kid in Philadelphia. Pretty soon, when people think of Philadelphia hardcore, they'll think of Reign Supreme..."

Reign Supreme get a great review from Pastepunk.com!!!
"...If you put all the pieces together, REIGN SUPREME's "sound of total fucking destruction," makes perfect sense. Led by former BLACKLISTED member Jay Pepito, this fellow Philly outfit takes it brand of hardcore and punctuates it right in your unassuming face. American Violence is a brisk six-track assault that sprinkles apocalyptic gang-vocals across a burning playground of double-bass wreckage, plate-shaking guitars, and throaty screams. REIGN SUPREME's musical foundation may be well-aged and traditional, but the band's gallbladder-breaking power is what makes this such an eye-popping EP. Thousands of hardcore bands have treaded over lyrics like "I live for today, because tomorrow may never come," but few tattoo it into your lower-lip like these guys. Few bands can go toe-to-toe with scene stalwarts like TERROR or MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD, but REIGN SUPREME are five-man wrecking crew on American Violence, and this is without a doubt, one of the heaviest sounding releases I've heard in a long, long time..."

Reign Supreme gets a great review from SMNnews.com!!!
"...With the recent storm of hardcore bands taking on more and more of a death metal influence in their songwriting, it is more than refreshing to find a band sticking to a classic approach. While there are fewer groups flying the flag of 80's NYC informed hardcore, it seems the ones that are, are doing it with a fine eye to detail. Philadelphia wrecking crew, Reign Supreme is no exception. Their brand of no-nonsense, balls to wall hardcore is cut from the same cloth as bands like Killing Time, Bulldoze and Neglect. Jay Pepito's vocals retain a powerful clarity despite their harsh tones. This ends up working well for the overall effect of the songs that make up their American Violence EP. Following a menacing intro, "I Stand Defiant" kicks things off in a rude and instantly infectious wall of fast paced rhythms and drill sergeant vocals. The band never repeats a section more than needed displaying a veteran-like level of craftsmanship. Their "cut-the-fat" style continues on songs like "Iscariot" and "Still Unbroken."

Another of the quintet's appealing assets is their sharp breakdowns. We're not talking the dime-a-dozen mosh parts that litter most current hardcore records. I'm talking the kinds of breakdowns that blow open a circle pit at a CBGBs hardcore matinee back in 1989! These Philly natives have definitely done their NYHC homework!...8/10..."

Reign Supreme gets a sick review from siczine.com
"...The recording sounds as forceful as a straight to the chin from Kimbo. The guitar tone sounds good as a mother fucker, it's not over the top heavy, which allows some additional room for the bass to breath but it's as heavy as needed. I love the placement of all things vocal and the drum tone is on the awesome side of the spectrum for sure...Rating: 4/5...I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were one of the bands to blow up (by hardcore standards) over the coming months. All the ingredients are there, they have released a demo, and a 5 song EP, now all they need to do is release a full length and tour their asses off. And holy shit, Dave Heck is EVERYWHERE!..."
Pulling Teeth get an amazing review @ Mammothpress.com
"...Something shocking has happened to the world of hardcore in the last few years. Namely, it got good. Fucked Up, Shook Ones, Paint it Black and more have been blowing minds and winning hearts (and ruining wallets if you're a vinyl nerd). But in all the hype over who from this new school is the best, I rarely hear anything about Pulling Teeth. All of those afore mentioned groups are awesome, but they are missing something that PT have in spades. Pure fucking speed.

Don't get me wrong, each of those bands are fast. But Pulling Teeth? These guys are about as fast as punk rock gets without falling into the realm of grind. And that's a good thing. Most fast music sacrifices personality in favor of technical prowess, while the songs that make up Martyr Immortal explode out of your stereo with a pissed off swagger that brings to mind 80's East Bay punk groups like The Dead Kennedys.

Except none of these tracks are that simple. Traces of everything from Iron Maiden to Big Black show up in the twirling guitar work, and the venom of front man Mike Riley is so thick you can imagine it killing any small animals found in listening range. Simply put, this shit slays. If I knew how to skate this would be the only thing I listened to. Martyr Immortal cannot be stopped, and in spite of the fact that it flew under my radar until the new year, this would have been on my end of the year list if my head hadn't been up my ass. Hardcore fans you need this.

Converge "Jane Doe" Deluxe Gatefold 2XLP to be reissued on Deathwish
Originally released during turbulent times in September 2001, "Jane Doe" was one of the darkest, bleakest, and most punishing acts of musical emoting ever committed to tape. "Jane Doe" took Converge's musical aggression, creativity and penchant for artistic nihilism-as-therapy to unparalleled emotional depths. While unmistakably Converge in sound, it reached harsher and more emotionally draining levels of abuse, relenting on, but not entirely abandoning, technical precision to focus on emotional upheavals and an all-or-nothing buffeting.

In the end, aggressive music would never be the same, as this 12-step conceptual journey of despair and loss, raised the bar musically and visually for the genre forever.

We are proud to announce that Deathwish (under exclusive license from EVR) will reissue the classic "Jane Doe" album on vinyl format. Available or the first time in over 6 years, this 2XLP will be packaged in a Deluxe Gatefold sleeve, and will feature a variety of vinyl color variations, appealing to collectors and audiophiles alike.

Pre-ordering for this release will be launched soon.

LLT "Runaways" gets a 9 out of 10 review from Mammothpress.com
"...With so many sub-genres of music it would be easy to for someone to just listen to the billion or so odd band's that make up each various segment of musical minutia available to you. It's not just enough to listen to hardcore anymore. Nope. You could easily find yourself only listening to metal-core or emo-core or a billion other core's. Or if you just wanted to focus your ears on metal, it would be easy to just listen to death, drone, doom or black to get your fix and never ever look past your particular genre of choice. But that would make for a rather boring music library. Just because you can listen to only one genre doesn't mean you should. I fact it's the bands who reach between genres to make their mark that I often find the most rewarding.

Deathwish Inc has always been a label that's managed to find the magical line between classic sounds and subgenre genius, as shown best through Runaways the recent LP from Life Long Tragedy. Although the band is sure to draw comparisons to Iowa's own Modern Life is War (and for more reasons than just long names with "life" in them), the group has managed to forge a sound of their own from the limited fields of hardcore and create a crop of heavy noise that equally sooths the soul while being able to incite riots.

It's not that this isn't technically a "hardcore" album. If you asked the band, they would assuredly claim the genre. But outside of a sound that simply feels like a "hardcore" sound Runaways seldom ever dips into the genre's mainstays. There are only a handful of traditional core rhythms, instead focusing more on almost dirge-like sludgy guitar lines and slowly thrashing drums to build towering waves of sound before they give you the simple release of a part fast enough to mosh to. Think Mogwai (ON FIRE) or Explosions in the Sky (AND PIT). Runaways is arty enough the elitist music snobs wont be able to ignore it and brutal enough that no fan of heavy music could possibly deny it's musical worth.

Let's face it. We, as music writers, often trade in cliche genre talk. Shit I've probably used some of it in this review. But certain records are better than our labels and more powerful than our preconceived notions. Runaways reminds me of the first time I listened to Modern Life is War, and the wonder I felt, that band's were still able to write records that made me think while they beat me over the head. Band's who are heavy are too often lumped into one category; one where brutality is all that matters. But there is a raw bleeding honestly to lines like "no matter what pain this brings, just don't say shit and pack you things. And without shame or warning will be somewhere else tomorrow morning." It's an honestly that makes this the one record in a pack of thousands about depression and loss to actually connect with the feelings that come with depression and loss. This isn't necessarily hardcore or emo or punk or metal or anything else. Cause all of that shit is subgenre. Runaways is simple, musical and lyrical catharsis. Give it a name if you must, I'll just call it brilliant...9 out of 10..."

Life Long Tragedy "Runaways" gets 4.5 of 5 Stars from Punknews.org!!!
"...Life Long Tragedy's 2004 debut LP, Destined for Anything, was very much a product of its time. Double-bass drum reliance, weird metalcore moments, a smattering of cliche "posi" lyrics and an overuse of gang vocals marred what was otherwise an enjoyable, if not unoriginal, hardcore release. In 2006, after signing to Deathwish, Inc., LLT released a split with Final Fight, which saw both bands heading in a Modern Life Is War-esque direction, with slower, grinding songs and a more personal and profound lyric style.

However, with Runaways, LLT sets aside any previous adherence to trends and lays out a highly original and emotionally affecting record. They ignore convention and display a willingness to take risks, most immediately noticeable with a raw and guitar-heavy production style. There is no reliance on gimmicks or studio tricks -- just a pure outbreak of energy and angst, sonically reminiscent of Converge's You Fail Me, stripped of its technique and mathy tendencies.

One standout track, "Hey Death," showcases all aspects of the band's newfound maturity. They can blast out a fast part, be catchy, and then fuck it all up with a slow and seething plea with death over a haunting bass and drum counterpoint before building to a final cathartic explosion of intensity. Many bands lose focus on the art of subtlety when attempting to be this profound, but LLT employ it liberally. Each instrument stands alone, unafraid to play with or against the others or even to drop out entirely. This is a rare trait in hardcore and lends a powerful and organic feel to the record.

On side two, LLT revisits "Sweet Innocence" from their split with Final Fight. While I am normally not a fan of bands re-recording songs, they manage to pull off a new take that fits well in the sequencing. The original recording is slow, but here they slow it down even more, wringing every last ounce of desperation out of an already desperate song. No longer does it sound like a tribute to Modern Life Is War, but showcases a band chasing its own dark muse.

Runaways is the sound of the moments in life when you look around and decide everything is fucked. In this record's world, darkness prevails and the plasticity of our culture is ever apparent. The raw sound and exasperated intensity of this record will alienate less educated and adventurous listeners but will reward active and repeated listens...4.5 out of 5 stars..."

Life Long Tragedy interview in Zero Magazine!!!
The upcoming issue of Zero Magazine will feature a short interview w/ RJ from Life Long Tragedy. Zero have already put the piece up online. Here's a snippet"

"...With a new album on Deathwish Inc. coming out this month and a full blown European tour under their belts, the North Bay's Life Long Tragedy is on a roll. Zero had the chance to ask guitarist R.J. some questions about touring, recording and future plans. Keep an eye out for these guys and catch a live show, they will blow your mind!

Zero Magazine: Lets get this one out of the way, who plays what in the band and where are you from?
Life Long Tragedy: Scott sings, me and Jery play guitar, Cody plays bass and Jason plays drums. We all live in the North Bay, specifically Sonoma County.

ZM: How did you guys meet and when did you start the band?

LLT: We all met in late 2001, early 2002, except for me and Scott because we're brothers. Jery and I had played in another band together prior to this one. I knew Jason from school, and Cody just magically appeared in our lives, which was great.

ZM: If you had to describe your sound in your own words, what would they be?

LLT: Just right.

ZM: How did you come up on Deathwish's radar?

LLT: Tre saw us in Massachusetts a few years ago and we were in touch shortly after that..."

Life Long Tragedy "Runaways" review from Scenepointblank.com!!!
"...Evolution in the music world results in one of two things: fame or infamy. Life Long Tragedy have slowly grown from a group of young individuals writing blazing, punishing, and angst-ridden metallic hardcore jams into a group that has honed their craft to construct cathartic, brooding, and dark songs that blur the definition of hardcore music, all while maintaining a connection to the genre. Certainly it is fame that awaits this group of five friends called Life Long Tragedy...Runaways is the first hardcore album of the year to really jump out and scream, "Take notice." If the masses are smart enough to pay attention to those yells, they will take notice of a group that has grown into a force that cannot be stopped..."

Life Long Tragedy "Runaways" album reviewed on Pastepunk.com
"...The first thing I thought when I listened to Runaways was the sound of New Age Records in the mid-90s crashing headfirst into the pervasive cloud of MODERN LIFE IS WAR influence that dusts much of present-day hardcore from coast to coast. LIFE LONG TRAGEDY nurse its sound with a focus on filthy, grime-crusted guitars and bass, and vocals that feel like they've been created through a smelting process. A chokehold on tempos keeps most of Runaways in a thick, unshakable mold, but songs like "Ignoring Lessons," and "Youth" show the band's faster, more melodic side. LIFE LONG TRAGEDY put up a good fight against classification. The mega-riff party that is "The Bottomless Hole," is keyed better towards the Hydra Head sludge-monster set than hardcore's metallic hardcore comfort zone. "Sweet Innocence" is like a big ol' draining of pus. Soured, and soiled, the tune drips for two minutes before finding the downhill slope. Doom and gloom. Open wounds. An eerie sense of unease. It's all here out in the open on Runaways. Enter at your own risk..."

Life Long Tragedy gets great review from Direct Hit Zine
"...Although I did not know what to expect, I certainly did not expect this. This is the equilavent of your life's emotions compressed into 12 songs. The highs and lows are captured here in the form of LIFE LONG TRAGEDY's enchanting new CD called 'Runaways'. It's full to the brim with hook filled abrasive, yet sad melodies that capture the mood - whatever the feeling. Songs that have a lot of effort put into them with fantastic guitar work, it's a combination of riffs so soft - coupled with harsher undertones. The dual guitar attack feed of eachother and seriously impress the hell out of me. Runaways is one of those releases, that with the more you play it, the more you uncover things you did not notice in the previous listen. So it's exciting and thrilling, which makes me want to play it again and again - I know I'll be playing it for years to come. Harsh sung vocals, creeping into the songs - only add a more humane feeling and compel the listener to sing along and rock out at the same time. Angst ridden lyrics of a sensitive, yet assertive front man. It took a year to complete this and it has paid off. I can see this being the sound track for many a soul during the course of this year..."

Over a year in the making, "Runaways" captures the raw beauty that weeps from the core of Life Long Tragedy. Songs like "The Bottomless Hole" and "Hey Death" showcase their bold growth, finding confidence at slower tempos and in more open song writing than their contemporaries. While "Youth" and "Ignoring Lessons" race forth with the rabid rebellious energy that Life Long Tragedy have been previously been known for. All of this is complimented by some of the most heart wrenching lyrics and crude melodies in recent memory. All together, these qualities make "Runaways" an infectious effort that will be championed my many for years to come.

Shipwreck a.d. "Abyss" scores a great review from Altsounds
So Deathwish Inc. do it again! Rarely does a record label consistently release the quality of albums as this Massachusetts firebrand does. Shipwreck A.D.'s latest, Abyss, is not exception to this rule. Rather, this is one of the most impressive titles in their heralded catalog yet. This is hardcore in the meanest and purest sense of the word. Frontman J.D. has the kind of weathered vocal chords that were meant for this kind of brutality. His disgruntled yells reminded me of Anthony Comunale's from legendary NYHC band Killing Time. With many vocalists in the current hardcore landscape going with death metal grunting, J.D.'s older school attack is very welcomed.

The songs on Abyss have been trimmed down to their most essential elements. Instead of trying to cram a million ideas into the span of one song, they make sure every riff compliments the overall composition. More bands should take a cue from this.Throwing in clean guitars on songs like "Miasma" and "Samur" was another stroke of smart songwriting by the band. The lyrics tell the tale of a man fighting to survive out at sea. Lyrical daggers like, "glacier teeth front it's mouth, scraping clouds make up it's mane," from the song "Ascent," not only show off fine wordplay, they also match the focused intensity of the music. There is a misconception out there that hardcore is music for "meatheads" but bands like Shipwreck A.D. prove that you can marry grace with brutality.

Shipwreck a.d. "Abyss" album gets a 4 out of 5 review @ Decoymusic.com
"...I think we need to give Deathwish Inc. a round of applause for being the most consistent label in hardcore. The quality of hardcore releases has certainly been in a decline over the last few years. While labels like Victory and Trustkill have seemingly abandoned their roots in favor of more accessible and often laughable bands who consider themselves hardcore, Deathwish Inc. has been signing the most dedicated new bands which embrace the work ethic and aesthetics of which the genre has built its foundation on. One of their latest signings, Shipwreck AD, has reminded me that there is still plenty of life left in hardcore and that there are bands who are still willing to pour their heart and energy into the music.

The Abyss is the perfect debut because it runs through each song with a seemingly effortless display of impressive musical chops. "Squall" is a mammoth opening track with pulsing double-bass and dominant guitars rising in intensity as the abrasive vocals slice through the commotion. Shipwreck keep things moving fast and never look back, utilizing tight songwriting and pure adrenaline to fuel their relentless vessel of destruction. Whether it is the guitar solo in "Nereus" or the acoustic guitars in "Samur" and "Beached", the band employs unique and remarkable moments to retain the listener's attention which keeps the record from being just another aggressive hardcore release..."

Shipwreck a.d. "Abyss" CD/LP gets 4 out of 5 review from Punknews.org
"...And let's not mince words here: Shipwreck is in no way inventive, dynamic, or original in any capacities of those words -- what they are is an exercise in pure, unadulterated rage. The kind of rage that makes you feel as if you could take your fist and put it entirely through a solid oak door.

"Squall" kicks off this punishing half-hour with towering riffs that invoke a violent energy rate from the beginning. If the thunderous drumming in the songs intro doesn't quicken your pulse, you may want to check to see if you have one at all. The slow, pulsating rhythm picks up even more in intensity when the scathing vocals enter the picture. Even in the more reserved moments in the song, there's a palpable energy that makes it perfectly apparent that musical explosion is nothing if not imminent. "Nereus" follows up with a very rhythmically heavy flow that completely pulverizes without ever really reaching a frenzied pace. It's a calculated groove that shows off some intricate riffing that couldn't feel more perfect in the track. Impressive as the first two songs are, it's the third, "Samur" where Shipwreck really shines. This is a song that, much more so than the first two, shows off the band's lyrical abilities. After an acoustic intro reminiscent of some of Skycamefalling's instrumental forays, Shipwreck launches into the vocally-centered attack.

"With no sail, I have no choice but drift, approaching clouds carry me this gift / Sun-dried and tattered, each inch of me hurts / Surrounded by water, but still dying of thirst / Because I won't give in to drinking the sea, the ale of defeat -- the true death of me"

Rarely do bands like this have such a poetic way with words, but in that song and most, Shipwreck display that there's thought and meaning in spades behind every brutally delivered verse. "Zenith" is the refreshingly stark and honest expression of how lifes journey is never truly complete; each word accented by the harsh and dramatic crescendos from every riff and drum fill alike. With Abyss, Shipwreck has shown that beauty and brutality do not have to be mutually exclusive; they can even be one and the same..."
