![]() | Loma Prieta "Life/Less" 12"LP Repress out now from Discos Huelga Shipping now from the DW Estore (not a Pre-order). Formed in 2005, Loma Prieta have been a mainstay of the Bay Area hardcore community for more than half a decade. In that time they have released four 12 inch records and two 7 inch records mostly on their own label, Discos Huelga. They have also toured the U.S., Japan, Canada, and Mexico numerous times, all while members play in several other hardcore bands (Punch, Beau Navire, Us Haunted Bodies). While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the rich tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling, each Loma Prieta record is substantially different from the last. Nonetheless, Loma Prieta have managed to forge a distinctive form of expression that is entirely their own. "Life/Less" is Loma Prieta's powerful second album, originally released by a partnership of Discos Huelga and React With Protest Records. Now, Discos Huelga and Deathwish have partnered to repress this sought after effort with all new artwork and packaging for the release. With "Life/Less", Loma Prieta began to explore their more chaotic side, adding heavier and faster moments to their previously established emotional hardcore punk foundation. ![]() | Self Defense Family "Self Immolation Family" b/w "World Virgins" 7"EP out soon Coming soon. This is the second installment of Self Defense Family's "Island Series" of recordings. Recorded at "Sundlaugin" in Mosfellsbær, Iceland the studio owned by the band Sigur Ros. The session was engineered by Birgir Jón "Biggi" Birgisson. "Provocative" is one of the best words to use when describing Self Defense Family. With this release, vocalist/lyricist Patrick Kindlon and Company continue down their well worn path of satire on the human condition. Here they offer up two new soul searching tales, fueled by tongue in cheek wit and teeth clashed angst. In both songs that make up this release, discordant melodies expand and contract around lackadaisical percussion, while Kindlon emotes and laments with true passion. There's no question, Self Defense Family still wear their DC influence well, but now it's tattered and torn; it's taking on their own shape. Melodic and infectious, inspiring yet at the same time, uniquely depressing. These songs are soundtrack for the solemn grey area in all of our lives. Another amazing release from one of the most interesting bands out there today. ![]() | Jeremy Bolm of Touche Amore launches "Secret Voice" label, distributed by Deathwish We are excited to announce the launch of "Secret Voice", a label founded by Jeremy Bolm of Touche Amore, manufactured and distributed by Deathwish. The first release, a 7"EP from the band Single Mothers is available now!!! "What is Secret Voice? It’s an excuse. It’s an excuse to release different things that I fully believe in, whether it’s a record, book, video, etc. The wonderful people at Deathwish Inc have blessed me with this opportunity. I have been lucky enough to spend most of the last few years traveling, and in my travels I have met a lot of talented people and seen a lot of fantastic bands that have influenced my decision to get this project off the ground. When we were in Europe this last Summer I made the mistake of forgetting my music and books in our van back in the states. This lead to a lot of time to think about what else I wanted to do with my life aside from Touche Amore. I’ve always dreamed of working at a label, so what’s better than starting one with your friends helping you out? Well, here goes nothing." Secret Voice Website Secret Voice Store |
![]() | Single Mothers "Self Titled" 7"EP available now on Secret Voice The first release on Secret Voice is the self titled 7"EP from London Ontario's Single Mothers. "Last year TA played an off-date show in Hamilton, Ontario. That night a band opened the show called Single Mothers. They started their set as I was organizing our merch and after about 45 seconds my ears perked up and I dropped what I was doing. I watched their set in entirety with my eyes wide and a rabid feeling of excitement that I knew I was witnessing something very special. Based out of London, Ontario Canada, Single Mothers plays a style of punk/post-hardcore that is both high in energy and layered with creativity. There is a level of honesty that vocalist Andrew Thomson gives with every song and performance that is jaw dropping and hair raising. This 7” EP serves as a unforgiving confessional of late intoxicated nights and sexual deviant behavior. Imagine a hybrid of The Hold Steady and The Bronx with a grimy overtone all it’s own. All of the elements are present for Single Mothers to step out of the shadows of Ontario and be the new Canadian front runners." - Jeremy Bolm. “It’s like Craig Finn fronting Black Flag in early ’90s DC, yet not at all.” - Adam White managing editor of Punknews.org Secret Voice is a label founded by Jeremy Bolm of Touche Amore, manufactured and distributed by Deathwish. ![]() Secret Voice Website Secret Voice Store |

![]() | Heiress "Naysayer b/w Just Throats" 7"EP available now!!! Heiress is comprised of former members of Botch, Himsa, Undertow, Jough Dawn Baker, Harbinger, and Pistols At Dusk. A well worn five piece hailing from the Pacific Northwest, they play a brand of dissonant post metal infused with a cold, hardcore heart. "Naysayer b/w Just Throats" features two brand new exclusive Heiress songs and picks up where their split with Narrows left off. Both songs are grim, dark, and ominous post everything musical explorations. "Naysayer" falls into a downward spiral of aggressive percussion before plodding forth with a warhorse like pace. While the b-side "Just Throats" navigates emotionally melodic waters, showing the sonic diversity that is Heiress at their most powerful. There's no question, "Naysayer b/w Just Throats" is a stunning release. A stark place holder to hold you over the fall and winter months, as Heiress will unleash their debut album "Early Frost" in 2012 on Deathwish. ![]() | Rise And Fall "Faith" CD/LP/Digital available now, summer tour dates "Faith" is Rise And Fall's artistic exploration on the concepts of faith and fate, nature and nurture, and life and death. Struggles that we can all relate to in our daily lives. Sonically, the album melds an impassioned technical proficiency and emotional performance unlike any other previous Rise And Fall release. Showing that in their maturity, Rise And Fall have gained creative depth without losing the ferocity that earned them their rightful place on the throne of the Belgian hardcore community. "Faith" was engineered and recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City studios. It includes guest appearances by Kurt himself, Stephen Brodsky (Cave In), Justin De Tore (Mind Eraser, etc.), Kevin Baker (The Hope Conspiracy, APMD, etc). With the first murky chords of opener "A Hammer And Nails", Rise And Fall shake the ground with noise rock discordance, weighty hardcore heaviness, and trademark "punk metal" rage. As the song recedes, they rise up again and unleash "Deceiver" and "The Gallows Await", two truly vicious anthems. While it's welcoming to hear Rise And Fall hit this familiar (yet evolved) stride, it is in their new found dynamics where they really shine. For example, "Breathe" carries an infectious/hazy jangle that pays homage to the Am Rep world before exploring unorthodox directions. And songs like "Burning At Both Ends" and "Things Are Different Now" take unpredictable melodious twists and turns before collapsing into powerful dirges. Not only have Rise And Fall grown musically but lyrically as well. In fact all throughout "Faith", soul searching lyrics are more revealing than ever before. Exploring the concept of broken faith, separation from the natural world, and the search for direction in life. This theme and its aural counterpart coalesce in the nearly seven minute epic closer "Faith/Fate". A song that metamorphosizes through a hypnotic ebb and flow, only to strip away layers to reveal something primal at the core; audio of the actual heartbeat of Vince's newborn daughter. This is truly a rare and powerful moment to hear in aggressive music; one where real life and art fuse together as one. 08/03: Knokke-Heist, Belgium @ Leviathan Fest w/ Oathbreaker, Verse, Soul Control, Ritual 08/04: Hannover, Germany @ Chez Heinz w/ Converge, Oathbreaker, Birds In Row 08/06: Paris, France @ Le Glazart w/ Converge, Birds In Row, Toxic Holocaust 08/07: Geneva, Switzerland @ L'usine w/ Converge, Birds In Row, Toxic Holocaust 08/08: Munchen, Germany @ Feierwerk w/ Converge, Birds In Row, Toxic Holocaust 08/09: Wien, Austria @ Szene w/ Converge, Birds In Row, Darkest Hour 08/11: Karlsuhe, Germany @ Stadtmitte w/ Converge, Birds In Row Rise And Fall Releases & Apparel in the DW Estore Rise And Fall Facebook Rise And Fall Twitter Rise And Fall Website |

![]() | Narrows "Painted" LP available for Pre-order now in the DW Estore Narrows "Painted" is available for Pre-order in the DW Estore now w/ an immediate download of the release!!! There is also new apparel available as well. The release will be shipping VERY soon to all Pre-order customers. Order now!!! While every bit as sonically vitriolic as their past endeavors, Painted attempts to focus its energy rather than lash out blindly. Songs like “Greenland” and “It’s The Water” still weigh in with bottom-heavy instrumentation, but lyrically look towards brighter horizons. Though the band seeks to close the emotional divide it basked in on their debut, the primary meaning behind New Distances couldn’t be more pertinent to the band’s sophomore album. The U.S. Department of Immigration recently denied entry to Cox, forcing the recruitment of temporary guitarist Mark Holcomb (Aeges, Undertow, Shift) for Narrow’s 2011 tour with Helms Alee. While the global nature of the band already limited their opportunities for touring, this additional roadblock further exacerbated the difficulties of writing and recording an album with members spread across the United Stated and Europe. Despite the difficulties of recording across two hemispheres, Painted sounds like a band locked into a singular vision. Matt Bayles (Mastodon, ISIS, Minus The Bear) recorded the album at Red Room Studios with Cox’s guitar overdubs tracked by Wayne Pennell at Bunker Studios in Brentford, England during late night Skype sessions with the stateside members of the band. Due in part to the constraints of time and distance, Painted is a streamlined record. With eight songs clocking in at just over 27 minutes, the album wastes no time exorcising its demons. And while part of New Distances’ allure stemmed from it’s marriage of primal metallic hardcore with the effects-laden art rock approach of guitarists Cox and Frederiksen, Painted harnesses power from curtailing more of their experimental moments in favor of big meaty riffs and voracious tempos. | Rise And Fall unveil "Hidden Hands" video by Mathieu Vandekerckhove On a sunny sunday morning in October last year we invited close to 30 of our friends to our practice space in Ghent for the shoot of the first ever Rise And Fall music video. We didn't invite them to act like they were the crowd or anything, no, we invited them to be Rise And Fall. From 8 in the morning 'till sunset, footage was shot of our friends pretending they were Rise And Fall. It resulted in 8 hours of footage which was later distilled into a 112 seconds long video by director Mathieu Vandekerckhove who also filmed the whole project. All this hard work, and sweat (we kept the heat at full blast in our practice space), resulted in a visual and auditive whirlwind that will commence after you hit play. Turn it up loud, watch it full screen and in HD if possible! We wanna thank everyone in the video and especially Mr. Vandekerckhove who spent hours on end editing this bastard. Look for members of Oathbreaker, Congress, Hessian, Reproach, Kindred, Amenra, Kingdom, Blind To Faith, Insult, Inhume, The Rott Childs, Kabul Golf Club, Kapitan Korsakov, Drums Are for parades, Minor Thieves, Vermin Twins, Officer Jones, Morrocan, Control Records, Rhythm To The Madness, Justice, Filler, Joshua's Song,… all bands we advise you to check out and find out what's going on in Belgium in 2012. ![]() | Loma Prieta "I.V." LP available now everywhere Formed in 2005, Loma Prieta have been a mainstay of the Bay Area hardcore community for more than half a decade. For “I.V.” the band’s Deathwish debut, Loma Prieta once again worked with longtime collaborator Jack Shirley (Atomic Garden Studio). With his guidance Loma Prieta tracked to tape 12 songs intensely emotional songs. Written during a time of great personal suffering and transition for the band "I.V." is the creative culmination of those collective experiences. From the opening breath of “Fly by Night”, Loma Prieta crash and bang melody and discord together into one beautiful work of art. This grinding theme continues throughout "I.V." in stunning songs like the aptly named three parter "Trilogy 4, 5, and 6". Creating a powerful and unpredictable ebb and flow to their emotional outpouring. As the dust settles on the distorted haze in closer "Diamond Tooth", an artistic coherency and clarity emerges that can only be described as Loma Prieta. A new kind of melancholy chaos that should be familiar, yet challenging, to those who enjoy bands like Love Lost But Not Forgotten, Pg. 99, La Quiete, and the ilk. Punch "Nothing Lasts E.P." will be released by a partnership of Deathwish, Discos Huelga, and 625 Thrash. In June of 2011, Punch piled into their two beat up Honda Civics in San Francisco, CA and set off on a twenty six minute journey to East Palo Alto, CA. With a population of just over four thousand gang members, East Palo Alto may be a peculiar place for a punk band to go, but nestled in its urban isolation is acclaimed engineer Jack Shirley and his Atomic Garden Studios (formerly the ShitBox). There under Shirley's attentive ears, Punch poured their patchwork sound into their latest work, "Nothing Lasts E.P.” The influences on “Nothing Lasts” are as varied as the 5 members’ musical backgrounds, spending time in bands as diverse as Doppelganger, Loma Prieta, and Bullets In. As with their previous releases “Nothing Lasts” straddles a variety of hardcore sub-genres. From thrash to d-beat to straight up youth crew Punch recombines all of these genres to create something all their own without ever being forced or cheesy (they're vegan, duh). “Nothing Lasts” is a slightly more introspective release for the band which lyrically and musically explores active nihilism – the idea that it is better to actively break down your walls and change yourself rather than to sit around and wait for the world to spoon feed you. Make each moment count because no matter good or bad, nothing lasts. Tracklist: 1. Do it Yourself 2. Done 3. Time Apart 4. Planning is Easy 5. Four Letters 6. The Chase 7. ![]() | Oathbreaker "Maelstrom" CD/LP available now everywhere Oathbreaker are a brutal Punk/Metal band from Ghent, Belgium. To outsiders, Belgium is a country rich in cultural diversity and history. However to its residents it is also a country of crime, corruption, and political incompetence. For the Ghent based Oathbreaker, the festering blood that surfaces from these social cracks and fissures burns as fuel for their creative engine. After their formation in early 2008, Oathbreaker released a debut 7"EP on the British label Thirty Days Of Night Records. The release was well received by many worldwide and propelled the band to tour Europe. There they shared stages with Entombed, Amen Ra (whom they share a member with), Blacklisted, Trap Them, and more. There they honed their craft, developing into one of the most interesting metallic bands out there today. Deathwish are proud to announce the release of "Maelstrom", the new album from Oathbreaker on July 5th, 2011. Recorded in Belgium by Michael Neyt and Lander Cluyse, mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge), and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan), "Mælstrøm" is a swirling mix of Metal, Punk, and Hardcore destruction. Similarities in Oathbreaker's ferocity to bands like Cursed, Rise And Fall, and From Ashes Rise are apparent, but merely a flash point for them. Opener "Origin" strikes hard of the gate, crashing down with swirling guitars, thunderous drumming, and vicious vocal stylings. From there, Oathbreaker push the limits of brutal with "Hierophant", a crushing mid paced masterpiece infected with a "Wolverine Blues" spirit. While songs "Thoth" and "Glimpse Of The Unseen" carry a Doom Metal like candor that would even make Tom G. Warrior proud. Song after song, the chaos ensues within the Oathbreaker vortex as they explore all shades of heavy. Then, as suddenly as their rage appeared on the horizon, it recedes to reveal the album's mesmerizing title track "Maelstrom". A dark acoustic passage that shows Oathbreaker's ability to not only unleash a fury, but control the musical super storm within. Without question, Oathbreaker's "Maelstrom" is one of the best debut albums we've ever heard, and we trust you'll feel the same way. This revamped Deathwish version is a brand new pressing and features killer new artwork and design by Ryan Patterson (Coliseum). On the B-Side, Sweden's punk/hardcore mainstays Victims offer up "On Our Knees", a buzzsaw of a song recorded by Fred Estby (Dismember, etc) and Nicke Andersson (Entombed, Hellacopters, etc). ![]() | Deafheaven "Roads to Judah" CD/LP/Digital out now Deathwish are proud to announce the release of Deafheaven's debut album "Roads to Judah". Recorded by Jack Shirley (guitarist of Comadre), "Roads to Judah", is a hypnotic thirty eight minute plunge into hazy musical darkness. A dizzying hybrid of Shoe-gaze shimmer, Hardcore vulnerability, and Black Metal intensity. From the opening drone of the album it's as if we are are peering through a dream into the private world that is Deafheaven's "Roads to Judah". Layers and layers of instrumentation build, tangle and swirl before the real onslaught begins. A ferocious drum fill then thrusts us from the serene into a free fall, as if the ground below suddenly gave way. From there we plummet through one awe inducing sonic fog into the next, blurring the traditional lines of song. Hyper blasts of speed rage and pulse while lush guitars bellow, roar and whine with unorthodox melody. And just as we feel we've departed from reality from the aural overload, tortured vocals cry out from afar. Serving as a stark reminder that there is something very human about "Roads to Judah" and Deafheaven themselves. Though the title could suggest something otherworldly, the "Judah" referenced is in fact the "N Judah" train, the busiest line of the San Francisco transit system. A relatable landmark to compliment the haunting ambiguity that surrounds Deafheaven and the music that they collectively create. On it, much of the lyrical writing and personal reflection for this album took place. With that said, "Roads to Judah" isn't Heavy Metal role play, but a beautifully blackened artistic exploration of the issues and self loathing that can cloud every day life. A stunning achievement, emotionally and musically, that will surely shape aggressive music for years to come. Video by Derek Woods From Jeremy: "The thought of doing a music video in this day & age along with this world we're involved in has always felt a bit odd. But after seeing some of Derek's videos online, we got inspired. Whether anyone saw it or not, we knew it would be a good time. Derek puts together stop motion videos using still photographs and has quite the talent for piecing it all together. We brought him along for a short run of West Coast shows in April of 2011. He shot 65,000 photos for this project. The song is called "Home Away From Here" and it's about traveling and finding comfort in the struggle of trying to survive. We wanted him to capture everything candid of what its like to tour. Driving, unloading, hanging out, playing, sleeping on floors, etc. Derek did a fantastic job!!!" This release in its original form put Trap Them on the map with listeners and critics worldwide as one of the most interesting heavy bands out there today. Songs like "Day 13: The Protest Hour" and "Day 14: Pulse Mavens" are a tornado of D-Beat hooks, frantic bursts of speed, and earth shaking dirges. Erasing the line between metal and punk with every unpredictable twist and turn. ![]() | Victims "A Dissident" CD/LP out now!!! Released by a partnership of the Deathwish, Tankcrimes, and La Familia Record labels. "A Dissident" is the latest album from Victims, recorded by Linus Wiklund with assistance from Nicko from Entombed. When the first chords of opener "Theft" interrupt the album's haunting intro, it's apparent that the years under their belt have only allowed Victims to become even more charged. For nearly a half hour "A Dissident" rages full bore from one punk/hardcore anthem to the next. Songs like "In Control", "We Are Not The Future", and "Nowhere In Time" carry the kind of heavy hooks that most bands can only dream of creating in their tenure. While "Broken Bones" and "Victims In Blood Pt. 6" are flawless examples of the classic hardcore/metal crossover power that they are known for. Victims' unrelenting ferocity, unforgettable choruses, and swedish quest for perfection has pushed the blueprint of their influences (Motorhead, Discharge, etc.) to a new contemporary level. And with the release of "A Dissident", Victims have cemented their place among the leaders, not followers, in today's true underground punk/hardcore scene. ![]() | Starkweather & Overmars Split 12"LP out now Philly's Starkweather and France's Overmars have teamed up to release a split 12"LP. Overmars have released numerous recordings over the last few years (many of which have been reissued by the Crucial Blast label). Their brand of ominous, expansive musical darkness is breath taking. A bleak and barren mix of doom, metal tinged punk, and experimental hardcore. Bringing to mind the sonic damage of later era Swans and Neurosis, while harboring a contemporary heaviness unlike anything else out there today. Starkweather's legacy within aggressive music is legendary. Recorded at the same time as their highly praised "This Sheltering Night" album, their contributions here show a creative force at their most powerful. The complex "Armed Memory" shows Starkweather as tortured, jagged, and frantic as they've ever been. While their 14 minute epic "Nightmare Factory" is a layered metallic dirge of catastrophic proportions, dizzying and disorientating in its hypnotic ebb and flow. Together Overmars and Starkweather have created an unclassifiable, paranoid journey into the artistic abyss, proving that aggressive music still has much to offer. No end is in sight as bands like these continue to reach down deep into their souls to explore such uncharted creative waters. ![]() | Irons & Pulling Teeth "Grey Savior" Split 12"LP out now IRONS: J. Bannon (Converge, etc), Dwid Hellion (Integrity, etc), and Stephen Kasner (Blood Fountains) are "Irons". A collective effort to create apocalyptic, non-linear music from a primal fine art based mindset. With this release, Irons have forged a pensive sonic reflection ripe with melancholy and despair. Electronic textures, haunting vocals, and unorthodox guitar work all dance together to create an unforgettable melodic portrait that is unlike anything out there today. Pulling Teeth: A stylistic departure for Pulling Teeth, here they utilize this release to tread into deeper, more experimental, musical waters. The featured opus "Generals Of Dark Hymns" shows a new kind of dynamic emerging from their dark well of creative character. Slowing the pace only to crash down with a force merely hinted at in previous Pulling Teeth recordings. The release also features a J. Bannon (Converge, etc) remix of "Dismissed In Time", the epic closing track from their heralded "Martyr Immortal" album. ![]() | New Lows "Harvest of the Carcass" LP/Digital out now Order New Lows "Harvest of The Carcass" 12"LP now in the DW Estore!!! Formed in late 2006, New Lows are one of Boston's heaviest hardcore/punk/metal bands. Featuring members of Think I Care, So Be It, The Prowl, Riff Raff, and more, they take their direction from classics of the genres like Ringworm and (early) Bolt Thrower. Delving deep into their depths only to pull to the surface the darkest of creative visions. After honing their skills in basements and local shows, New Lows released their now classic demo tape in early 2007 (on Rock Vegas/Eating Rats). This demo featured four monstrous songs (now included on the CDEP version of their Lockin' Out release). In early 2008, New Lows recorded a Live Set @ WERS, which was aired as part of the final broadcast of the classic "Radiobeat" radio show (later released as a limited cassette release by the band). In the summer of 2008, New Lows released their "Self Titled" debut 7"EP/CDEP on the Lockin' Out label. Shortly after they hit the road in support of the release, playing memorable shows across the country on route to the 2008 Sound And Fury Festival. Since then, New Lows have overcome broken bones, internal conflict, and the Fung Wah bus to create one of the heaviest Deathwish releases to date, "Harvest of the Carcass". Recorded by CC of Mind Eraser at The Paincave, "Harvest of the Carcass" is an absolute monolith of an album. Where many contemporary bands wield a polished approach to being "brutal", New Lows wield a crude, blood soaked stone. Drop tuned riffing and bone shaking double bass pummels like a rain of anvils to the head. All the while, PBoy's guttural vocals weave a tale of social decay and emotional survival. All of these qualities make "Harvest of the Carcass" infectiously cro-magnon in the best way possible. Proving that New Lows are a welcomed alternative to the "metalcore" hybrid that saturates today's aggressive music scene. New Lows "Harvest..." ![]() | Bitter End "Guilty As Charged" CD/LP out now Bitter End are an intense hardcore band from San Antonio, Texas, influenced by the metallic New York Hardcore bands of the late 80's and early 90's. With their exhaustive touring and their debut 7"EP "Mind In Chains", they established themselves as a brute force in the hardcore community. Refining their mid-tempo power displayed in their previous release, Bitter End took it to the next level with their debut album, "Climate of Fear". Tight production accentuated song after song, creating a controlled chaos few bands could ever achieve. They soon after followed this album with a three song "Self Titled" 7"EP. A release that displayed a band evolving and refining their technical ability and song writing power. 2010 brings us "Guilty As Charged", the pummeling new album from Bitter End. With all the makings of a contemporary hardcore classic, "Guilty As Charged" bruises and batters with dynamic riffing, potent vocals/lyrics, and bone shaking breakdowns. Songs like "Unjust" and the title track "Guilty As Charged" showcase this hybrid brand of hard hitting thrash and hardcore.
