Looking for some new bands to check out along the lines of Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas is the Reason, Braid etc.

New and old(er) please!

Sounds like you need to check everything Jade Tree released in the late 90s early 00s.

I really used to like a local band in college called Meneguar. I haven't checked out those bands you named yet but my mental image is similar (snaking guitars, passionate vocals). Check them out chronologically to see if you like em.

Also, a roommate around the same period introduced me to a different style of emo band called Pg 99 which you might've heard of that I still revisit and get stoked about. I think this stuff was real popular, like Orchid, Saetia, Indian Summer, etc.... Right? Guys?

My current roommate just introduced me to Drive Like Jehu. I really dig it. I think it shares some similarities with the aforementioned bands. I believe they were also really popular. Check em out.

What's emo?

There were loads of cool bands that got called emo back in the mid 90s to early 00s. Stuff like Hot Water Music, Burning Airlines, Far, Will Haven, Glassjaw, At-the Drive In, ...And you will know us by the trail of the dead, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Small Brown Bike, Recover, Spy Versus Spy, Commander Venus, Finch, Drive it like you stole it, Mile marker, Cave In and a few more .......

Although the emo label seems to have changed a little bit now and includes a much narrower range of bands these days.
