Finally got my pre-order today. Such an immense record. I'm kind of gutted i slept on this initially and missed out on the half/half vinyl, but it still looks incredible.

If you feel so inclined...check out Nick Bassett's other band, Whirr. They're more straight-up Shoegaze and all awesome. We did a little intro write-up about them:

hey DW! are you guys gonna have copies of the Whirl EP 12" in your store at any point? i want to get one but i don't want to order from a euro distro... i got my copy from sweet sound of nothing and it was messed up. scrathed record, creases in the jacket, seemsplits, and they mailed it in a envelope.... my worst nightmare...

any word on this would ease my pain slightly...

The Deathwish Live Series is a series of FREE live recordings of Deathwish affiliated artists. These recordings are from a variety of sources: Radio shows, official and non-official live recordings, bootlegs, and more.

We are giving these recordings away as a thank you to the listeners who continue to support independent music. If you dig what you hear, please support these artists by seeing them live and by purchasing their releases and apparel in the DW Estore @ www.deathwishinc.com.

On January 15th, 2011, Deafheaven played a stunning set on a loading dock turned venue called "The Blacktop" in Bell Gardens, California. Also on the show was Low Places, Joyce Manor, and label mates Touche Amore. Deafheaven's performance that night left attendees in awe, serving as the flash point for a whirlwind year for the genre bending band. This is a recording of their entire set from that show.

what's the deal with their lineup? i know kerry & george are the core members, but it seems as if their one guitar player who is also in whirr/whirl has left along with their original drummer

I was wondering about this as well. I read the BrooklynVegan review of their show w/ Russian Circles and it makes mention of new guitarist and drummer. My initial thought was that Nick left the band then?!?!...I guess he did.

i don't think nick has ever toured with deafheaven, mostly due to obligations with whirr/whirl. i'm still curious to find out who the new guys are.

As varied as the lineup of artists on Deathwish are, I was surprised to find out these guys were on here. I saw them at SXSW this year, and I was blown away. My brother and I talked to the vocalist for a bit, very nice dudes. I bought this cd, and it's hardly left my player. Right around the 10 minute mark on track one is by far one of the most intense build-ups I've heard in some time. SO much emotion, and such raw power. I've suggested this album to MANY friends, there's a little something for everybody, without it being spread too thin. I hesitate to call it Black Metal, just because it's really more than that. It's something very new. I'm a hardcore/punk rocker at heart, but in the last few years, I've been into a lot of the "extreme" metal stuff. Black metal purists are barking, but what the hell is wrong with doing things different? These guys are making insanely intense, and at the same time heartrendingly beautiful music, on their own terms. They're metal, hardcore, screamo, shoegaze, post-metal, and at the same time, they're none of these things. They're Deafheaven, and they are the future.

So we wear these words so proudly, they're permanently carved in the air we breathe.
