I need new music to get into, that isnt hardcore
January 25, 2010 04:52PM
as I've gotten older, I've mellowed out some, so I cant do hardcore all the time. the most recent non-hardcore related things I've bought have been

Envy
Mono
La Dispute
Touche amore
Minus the bear
portishead (more in frequent rotation than usual)
bjork
sunny day real estate (back in more rotation)
jesu
interpol
imogen heap/frou frou
this will destroy you (although that would be a great name for a hardcore band)

so, if anyone has things along those lines I should check out, put em down. thanks guys

I've been on that same kick as well...

A few that I've been digging lately:

Asobi Seksu (shoegaze-style...akin to Mazzy Star and even Portishead)
Mamiffer (band featuring A. Turner of ISIS)
Baby Shakes (garage punk but very poppy)
27 (hard to describe...but think of Portishead but less electronic)
Sophia (I can't say enough great things about them...Tre and Jake will agree...kinda like Sparklehorse, Neil Young)

Joanna Newsom

It is true, everyone seems to mellow with age, althought nothing makes me feel the way I do listening to hardcore or going to a hardcore show I tend to listen a lot of folk country these days, you should check out:

The Cave Singers (Derek from Murder City Devils newish band) playing sweet folk/country.
Pygmy Lush (Chris from Page 99, on their newer stuff they mix it up, but a lot of it sounds like Neil Young).
Mumford & Sons (banjo heavy UK band, who are currently being bummed by the mainstream, but who cares, their debut album is awesome).
Magnolia Electric Co/Jason Molina (great country/ballad type stuff, pretty sad...but awesome).

Non country...definately check out
The Pains OF Being Pure At Heart (kinda Jesus & Mary Chain-esque super pop/upbeat anthems).
Get Bent (reminds me a little bit of Latterman, they've split but put out a few amazing 7"s of anthmic punk rock).
Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (you can't go wrong with the Road soundtrack).
